Enjoy sports?  Ever tried adventure sports – kayaking, hiking or mountain biking.  Ballyhoura Development Ltd in association with FAS is pleased to announce the second year of the Ballyhoura Outdoor Recreation Course, due to start in October 2012 and now accepting applications.

Hiking in the Ballyhoura mountains, kayaking on Lough Gur or mountain biking on the EPIC Ballyhoura trails – no day is dull!  This intensive 40 week course provides training in outdoor education with all the skills and qualifications needed to become a mountain bike leader, kayak instructor, hiking skills, qualified first aider and Leave No Trace Trainer.  Leave no Trace is a qualification which aims to educate outdoor enthusiasts about responsible outdoor ethics.

The course is a FETAC Level 5 major award with modules in Adventure Activities, Outdoor Leadership and Safety and Outdoor Recreation.  There is also a 6 week work placement during which participants go and work in an outdoor centre and get to put their new skills into practice.

The course which is based in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick is now accepting applications.  To qualify for the course, you must have an interest in sport and an ambition to work in the outdoors.  Applicants should be aged over 18 years and in receipt of social welfare.  For further information or to apply, contact Anisa Moynihan, Ballyhoura Development Ltd.
