Come and join us as we raise awareness of International World Suicide Prevention Day 2022.

World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day observed on the 10th of September every year, to demonstrate worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. To mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2022, Ballyhoura Development in association with the HSE are inviting people to join them in Charleville Park Hotel for an event on September 10th from 11am to 2.30pm.

  • A key speaker on the day is John Lonergan, published author who served in the Irish Prison Service for over 42 years. Nowadays he delivers talks on a wide range of subjects to communities, voluntary groups, workers, and students. The topics John discusses include making a difference to others, the importance of community, why we cannot force change on others, reducing suicide risks, and balancing work, home, and family life.

  • Also speaking on the Day will be Jacinta McCormack, HSE Community Health Worker, Cork North Community Work Department, CKCH HSE. Jacinta will share her own personal experience and journey, following the death by suicide of her sister.
  • A large community-based Art project will be launched with Jacki Hehir, North Cork Health Project.
  • Mid West ARIES will also be attending and will introduce and launch their new online Self-Paced Course at the event.
The day will have a large focus on wellness and will offer wellness workshops, and opportunities for people to meet and talk with lunch and refreshments also provided.

If you or your community group would like to get involved and leave a message of hope for the day or remember a loved one, please contact Jacki Hehir on 087-1840938, and she will arrange to send you our #BallyhouraSpreadsHope hands on which you can leave your message or simply draw a picture of something that represents hope for you.
