Ballyhoura Development and University College Cork will hold an information and registration support day on December 16th in Coote Hall, Kilmallock from 10am - 1pm.

Ballyhoura Development is working in partnership with University College Cork (UCC) to deliver a QQI Level 7 Leadership in the Community programme commencing in January 2023 in the Ballyhoura area.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest!

Who is it for?

This programme is targeted at people who are:

  • Curious about the way local communities develop
  • Active in local communities
  • Interested in developing services and resources in local communities
  • Open to becoming more involved in local events

What's involved?

Information will be provided on the course content by University College Cork Adult Continuing Education Co-ordinator.

This University Adult Continuing Education Diploma delivered in the Ballyhoura area will provide:

  • A platform for discussion and debate
  • A forum for shared practice
  • Access to the theory that influences Community Development
  • Activities that enable you to develop your existing expertise

A QQI Level 7 Diploma will facilitate progression to further education or employment in this field.


This is a part-time programme that involves participants attending lectures and workshops one night a week over two years in the Ballyhoura area.

The programme modules include:

  • Group work skills
  • History and Theory of Community Development
  • Principals and Practice in Youth & Community Work
  • Social Analysis
  • Leadership and Management in the Community
  • Work Placement  with a community organisation
    Research Skills

There are no exams! Assessment is assignment based and includes learning logs, a community profile, group projects, presentations, essays and practical placement.
