Ballyhoura Development is hosting 3 hands-on biodiversity workshops and surveys for the general public, during June and July!

These free community workshops aim to provide local people who are interested in biodiversity with knowledge and expertise in biodiversity surveying.

The findings will also add to the national biodiversity surveying effort underway in association with the National Biodiversity Centre in Waterford, which oversees data on Ireland’s natural biodiversity landscape.

The Why?

In a time of great change, people are looking for a positive way to become informed on issues around biodiversity loss. Strengthening local ties with the natural world through activism and education, backed by a sophisticated national framework will arm communities with the skills and knowledge to promote local resilience, and create thriving spaces to live and work.

These workshops and community research surveys are supported by NPWS and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in an effort to support and grow citizen science surveyors across the country.

For Who?

Individuals of any age and existing community groups are invited to get involved and join us. Be train up with the knowledge, confidence and experience to conduct ongoing recording projects in your town or village.

We are looking for novices who would like to learn more about biodiversity and gain skills in how to record and monitor living things in their own communities. This training is completely free and is open to all.

  • All equipment required for the training workshops and site surveying will be supplied to you as part of this training
  • No prior knowledge is required to take part in this community event
