An opportunity for young people (aged 15-24) in the Ballyhoura area to come together to Think Global and Act Local.

This participative half-day event for young people aged 15-24 is aimed at supporting young people to think globally by engaging in development education on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and empowering them to act locally and engage with planning for the development of their local community/s.

The event is an opportunity to have their voices heard about what they consider to be the key challenges facing them and how they can be supported to have their voices heard. It will also be an opportunity to network with other young people and like-minded individuals.

What's involved?

For this event, Ballyhoura will be joined by a facilitator from Trócaire who will be running a development education session. This will be followed by a free light lunch and then an opportunity to share your challenges within the community and your vision of your community in the future, and how Ballyhoura Development might be able to support young people to achieve this vision.

What is development education?

Development Education is an active and creative educational process to increase awareness and understanding of the world we live in. It challenges perceptions and stereotypes by encouraging optimism, participation and action.

Trócaire’s Development Education team help to inform learners about global issues such as poverty, injustice, gender equality and climate change using a human rights lens. Through this workshop, participants will engage in a learning journey on global justice issues and will make a connection between their own lives and global issues, empowering them to play an active role as global citizens for a more just world.
