The webinar will take the form of a presentation and discussion which aims to provide communities with an overview of the SEC (Sustainable Energy Community) journey, from initial interest through to completion of community energy efficiency projects. It will be hosted by experienced SEC mentors, Gearóid Fitzgibbon and Conor O’Brien, who are part of the Community Energy Mentor team in the Mid West & South West Region.

This event will serve as an introduction for community groups interested in developing local energy projects, and will be of particular interest to newly formed SECs, and Communities which are at the early stages of developing community-led and community-based energy projects.

It will cover:

  • The benefits for communities of becoming a SEC;
  • Outline of supports available;
  • The role of the SEC Mentor and supports which Mentors can provide;
  • Introduction to the SEC Community Energy Mentor team for the Mid West & South West region;
  • The types and range of projects and work which can be done within the SEC framework;
  • The benefits of doing a Community Energy Plan;
  • How to get started on the SEC journey;
  • An overview and discussion of 2 community energy projects.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss points of common interest to participants.


The Sustainable Energy Communities Programme is delivered by a team of Community Mentors across the Mid-West & South West region, covering Co Cork, Co Kerry, Co Tipperary, Co Limerick and Co Clare.  The Programme is funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), and coordinated by Ballyhoura Development in the Mid-West & South-West region.
