Ballyhoura Development is currently running a series of half-day workshops for groups of all ages at the Outdoor Classroom in Griston Bog Nature Reserve in Ballylanders, Co.Limerick.

The purpose of these workshops has been to raise awareness and knowledge about local biodiversity and bogs and the important role they play in trying to address climate change.

We have had some wonderful days out at Griston Bog learning about the importance of Irish Peatlands, with enthusiastic discussions on the future of peatlands and their importance in the role they play in Ireland's ecosystem.

Groups that have participated in one of our Discovery Day Sessions so far include:

  • Mitchelstown Afterschools
  • Caherconlish Afterschool
  • Mitchelstown Social Hub
  • Shanballymore Golden Hour Group
  • Glenroe National School.

Good days were had by all!

A picture adds a thousand words, and, in our case, they show great hands-on learning from our groups, with some hands-on exercises in creating our very own bogs in a bottle, identifying species, learning about peatland hydrology and much more!

The Griston Bog Discovery Day Workshop series is supported by Limerick and Clare Education & Training Board through the REACH Fund
