Intellectual Disability Studies (QQI Level 5) Would you like to work as a carer or in the area of Intellectual Disability? This FREE course is part of the Healthcare Opportunities for Women programme and is open to women who are not working or are not in receipt of a job seekers payment in their own name. A qualification in Healthcare (QQI, Level 5) can open the door to new employment opportunities, across a range of care environments, from acute hospital settings to residential and home care. What's involved? This module is specifically designed for people that want to work with people with intellectual disabilities, in a range of settings, such as independent living, residential, day-care or respite. It will support learners with the relevant knowledge, skills, attitude and competence to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and increase their quality of life. Learners who successfully complete this module will: gain an understanding of how intellectual disabilities are assessed and supported. develop an awareness of hurt and stigma that inappropriate labelling of people with intellectual disabilities can cause. learn about the service provision for people with an intellectual disability. gain a person-centred approach to supporting people with an intellectual disability. When & Where? This training is part-time delivered in-person over two half days and runs during school hours at the Croom Enterprise Centre. Commencing on Monday 25th of April (every Monday & Wednesday), and it completes the 8th of June. Learning Supports Provided! Women who join the programme will be supported intensively with one to one supports, group supports and support to gain employment. Learners who complete this module can progress towards a full QQI level 5 Award and gain employment in Healthcare or in the area of Intellectual Disability.
