The Rural Development (LEADER) Programme aims to improve the quality of life for communities and community members living and working in rural areas, and to encourage diversification of the rural economy.

The LEADER Programme outlines three themes that have been identified, through consultation and research, as representing the overarching needs of rural Ireland for this programme period.

1.Economic Development, Enterprise Development and Job Creation

2. Social Inclusion

3. Rural Environment

These themes respond to key challenges facing rural Ireland, with regard to: economic recovery, employment creation, tackling social exclusion, reducing the impact of global warming and resource depletion.
