On Saturday the 10th of September, World Suicide Prevention Day, Ballyhoura Development hosted a community event to bring people together and celebrate hope while raising awareness of suicide in the community.

This event was supported by Ballyhoura Development through the SICAP programme, the North Cork Rural Community Health project as well as through supports received through the HSE National Lottery.

The theme of the event was 'Spreading Hope in the Community'.
The keynote speaker, the ex-governor of Mountjoy prison, John Lonergan, spoke about the power of caring for our own wellbeing, the challenges of today's world that may get in the way, and some helpful tips for staying connected with loved ones. Jacinta McCormack spoke about the impact of suicide on her family and how she overcame the loss of her sister to suicide. Attendees at the event participated in a revitalising yoga session and a guided meditation.

To conclude Mid-West Aries officially launched their self-paced online course "My Self care", as well as the workshops that they are facilitating in collaboration with Ballyhoura Development.
