iCEAR 3rd International Partners Meeting in Opole, Poland During 9–11 June, Ballyhoura Development joined project partners from across Europe for the third in-person meeting of the iCEAR (Integrated Circular Economy for Action in Rural Areas) project in Opole, Poland. Hosted by the project's Polish partner, OCRG Opolskie, the meeting continued the strong collaboration and knowledge exchange among all 13 partners. As Ireland's representatives in the project, Ballyhoura Development engaged in discussions on the strategic approach to the circular economy and how circular economy principles can be better integrated into local and regional policy frameworks. Earlier learnings from previous meetings were reflected upon, demonstrating the value of the programme's collaborative approach. Discussion on best practices, their transferability, and the use of Pilot Actions to test them formed another key element of the meeting. This was complemented by a programme of study visits showcasing circular economy initiatives in the areas of raw materials and construction processes, paper tissue manufacturing, food and wine industries, and collaborative research with industry. Study visits included: Cwielong Winery and Local Food & Wine Trail (rural circular economy example) Górażdże Cement Factory Metsä Tissue plant Łukasiewicz ICSO – Institute for Renewable Resources Chemistry The iCEAR project aims to improve regional and local policies that foster the circular economy (CE) in rural areas by supporting bio-based value chains. The project brings together 13 partners from 9 European countries, including regional development agencies, municipalities and policy organisations, working together to make the circular economy more effective and better integrated across local, regional and national levels. While the circular economy is widely recognised for its potential to improve resource efficiency and reduce waste, policies to support it often lack coordination. iCEAR addresses this by focusing on: Improving access to knowledge and information about the circular economy Building networks and coordinating circular economy-related activities Developing and aligning strategic approaches across regions Supporting innovative interventions in rural areas Fostering a culture of innovation and awareness around the circular economy To find out more, visit the iCEAR Project website below: iCEAR Project Website Manage Cookie Preferences
