Ballyhoura Development has supported Tidy Towns groups across the region to enhance their local environments through the development of Tidy Towns plans. Over the past number of weeks, groups have received copies of their 5 year Tidy Towns plans.

This initiative was supported by LEADER and provided one-to-one supports to communities to develop plans that emphasized the importance of understanding local biodiversity and developing new sustainable actions.

Ballyhoura Development has supported the establishment of a thriving network of Ballyhoura Country Tidy Towns groups and has facilitated a coordinated approach to village enhancement throughout the area. With the support of LEADER funding, Tidy Towns groups across the region were supported to develop tidy towns plans that are adapted to the shifting focus of the Tidy Towns competition.

The plans were developed with communities across 2020 and 2021 and the process included clinics, site visits, and one-to-one support groups taking part in the initiative. The Tidy Towns competition has placed an increased emphasis on encouraging communities to educate residents and visitors about local biodiversity, develop projects that can mitigate the effect of climate change at a local level and embrace the United Nations Sustainability Goals.

These plans will provide a framework for Tidy Towns groups in the Ballyhoura area to develop new projects in these areas whilst progressing in the competition.

Ballyhoura Development would like to take this opportunity to wish the communities the very best of luck in the 2021 competition.
