Tús is a Community Work Placement Initiative which provides short term work placement opportunities for people who have been unemployed for 12 months or more, in local communities.

Ballyhoura Development employs 80 staff on the Tús Programme, who work with, and for communities, throughout the Ballyhoura area, on a wide range of short-term projects. Examples of work placement opportunities include:

  • Community Councils;
  • Community Childcare facilities;
  • Tidy Towns Groups;
  • Development and maintenance of recreation facilities, walking trails, etc.;
  • Family Resource Centres;
  • Sporting facilities such as GAA Clubs, Soccer clubs, etc.;
  • Community IT and IT training initiatives.

By matching the skills, training needs and career aspirations of Tús staff with community project needs, staff participating in the Programme benefit by improving their skills and knowledge, while communities benefit by having additional resources available for their project.
