Farm Walk: Weeds, Wild Plants and Working Landscapes

Delivered as part of the Farm Forward programme and the  Ballyhoura Farmers Health & Wellbeing Network with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. 

Join us at Slí Eile Farm for a relaxed and informative farm walk exploring the herbs, weeds and wild plants commonly found across our farms, fields and hedgerows.

The walk will look at the history, folklore and traditional uses associated with familiar plants, as well as their role within working landscapes. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the plants growing around them and to see the countryside from a different perspective.

Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature can also support physical and mental wellbeing. This event offers a chance to enjoy some gentle activity, meet others from the farming community and take time away from the everyday demands of farm life.

What to Expect

During the walk, participants will explore a range of herbs and wild plants found around the farm and learn about their traditional, practical and cultural uses.

The session will include informal discussion about plant identification, farming landscapes, biodiversity and the connections between nature and wellbeing. No previous knowledge or experience is required.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as the event will take place on a working farm.

Who Should Attend?

This event is open to active and retired farmers, farm families and anyone from a farming background.

Whether you already have an interest in herbs and wild plants or would simply enjoy a social morning outdoors, you are very welcome to attend.
