Come on down to Griston Bog in Ballylanders to meet Betsy the Barn Owl on the 20th of August and learn about the importance of the Barn Owl in Ireland’s habitats.


What's Involved?

The Animal Roadshow will be providing information on the Barn Owl and how they are an important part of Irish ecosystems.

 Over the course of the event, participants will also have an opportunity to:

  • Attend a tour of the bog with one of An Taisce’s Limerick Climate Ambassadors.
  • Complete an orienteering exercise of the Barn Owl’s food chain and discover interesting facts about climate change in Ireland.
  • Become a citizen scientist and examine some samples from the pond, and have a chance to dip in a net to see what life you might uncover.
  • Take part in a “quiet corner” colouring station in the bird hide, and learn how the Barn Owl has played an important role in Irish Heritage.

The Barn Owls of Ballyhoura Heritage Week Event will help further actions and work towards the Sustainable Development Goals in particular Targets 15.5 and 15.9 under SDG 15, Life on Land, and Target 13.3 under SDG 13, Climate Action.
