This practical introductory session is designed for migrants who are interested in exploring self-employment and would like to understand the key steps involved in starting a business in Ireland.

Participants will receive an overview of the legal, financial and practical aspects of becoming self-employed, along with the opportunity to hear directly from a migrant entrepreneur who has successfully established a business in Ireland.

The formal presentation on starting a business in Ireland will be delivered in English, followed by a guest speaker session in Ukrainian, with multilingual subtitles available throughout the session.

The session will provide an introduction to:

  • Registering as a sole trader or establishing a company in Ireland
  • Basic tax responsibilities with Revenue, including Income Tax, VAT and record-keeping
  • Understanding the requirements of the Companies Registration Office (CRO)
  • Planning permission considerations when operating from home or business premises
  • Health and safety obligations for small businesses
  • Food safety regulations

Guest Speaker

We are delighted to welcome Olena Belan, founder of Party Balloons Limerick and mother of three, who successfully established her balloon decoration business in Ireland.

Olena will share her personal journey from receiving support through the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) to building a sustainable and successful business. She will discuss the challenges she encountered, the supports that helped her along the way, and the practical realities of running a business in Ireland.
