Ballyhoura Development is inviting community members to enter a photo competition by sharing images of biodiversity in their community with us!   

The purpose of the competition is to showcase biodiversity across the Ballyhoura area, and entries will be displayed at an exhibition that will form part of a final event in April showcasing Ballyhoura Development’s involvement in the Shared Green Deal: Preserving Biodiversity project. 


What's involved? 

To enter, all you need to do is submit your photograph at the link below, along with your name, telephone number, and the category of your photo. 

  • The competition is open to everyone! 
  • Multiple entries are encouraged – one photo per entry.
  • Under-18s will need consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Prizes will be awarded in each category. 

We would like to hear from as many people as possible in the Ballyhoura area! 

The competition will be judged in 2 categories:

Category 1: Biodiversity in my Community 

  • Images of Biodiversity, e.g. 
    • nature: trees and plants, birds and other flying creatures, mini-beasts, mammals, life under soil or water etc. or
    • anything else you can think of! 

Category 2: Best Community Biodiversity Project 

  • Inspiring images of local biodiversity projects, e.g.
    • Community gardens, allotments, community wildflower gardens;
    • Tidy Towns projects, local parks, etc. 

Three prizes will be awarded: 

  1. Best photo in Category 1 

  2. Best photo in Category 2 

  3. Best photo taken by a young person (under 18) 


What are the Prizes? 

  • €50 ‘One for All’ voucher.
  • Prize winning photos will be featured on the Ballyhoura Development website.
  • Prizes will be presented at a prize-giving ceremony and exhibition (April - tbc).

Closing date for submissions: Monday, 8th April 2024

You can now register for the final closing event of the Stop, Look, Listen: Preserving Biodiversity in Ballyhoura project, where you will have an opportunity to view an exhibition of photos showcasing local biodiversity. This includes all entries Stop, Look, Listen Photography competition, including the category-winning photographs.
