Ballyhoura Development have warmly welcomed investments in a range of local community centres across the Ballyhoura area of north Cork and east Limerick. 

The funds, provided to local community groups, through the Department of Rural and Community Development, provide for significant upgrades and development. 

Speaking at the launch of the funding, the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said, "This Government and the last showed time and again that we’re committed to community development. I’m delighted to see this ground-breaking investment in community centres. It will bring real improvements to the heart of communities across Ireland’’. 

Mary Laffan, Chair of Ballyhoura Development congratulated all of the local communities that have been successful in securing much needed investment for their community centres.

Over €600,000 was received by 6 local community groups in the Ballyhoura Development area!

Successful communities include: 

  • Shanballymore Community Development Association who have been allocated €36,390.94,
  • Brigown Arts and Heritage Project allocated €87,250.00,
  • Kilmallock Performing Centre Company allocated €94,033.35,
  • Granagh Development Association allocated €84,052.82,
  • Rockhill Bruree Community Council allocated €92,472.89
  • Murroe Wood Park allocated €206,290.71.  

Announcing the overall investment, Minister Humphreys added, that "The local community centre is at the heart of our towns, villages and parishes right across the country. Our Community Centres come in many different shapes and sizes and provide a wide and diverse range of services and activities. The Community Centre is where the children go to play sport; it’s where meals are provided for our senior citizens; it’s where the local dramatic society perform; it’s where the ICA, our Men's Sheds, Youth Clubs and other local organisation come together for their meetings and events." 

The funding allocated locally will see investments in the building fabric of halls, the internal services and facilities and renewable energy technologies.
