The Ballyhoura outdoor recreation and adventure product has received a boost this week with the welcome allocation of funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. The investment will help enhance a number of local walking trails and support the local economy by helping to attract additional visitors.

Chairperson of Ballyhoura Development, Mary Laffan, welcomed the announcement of the funding, adding that  “the funding will further the Ballyhoura areas reputation as a destination for quality outdoor recreation and adventure".

John Kennedy, Chairperson of Ballyhoura Heritage and Environment also welcomed the allocation of funding to the Ballyhoura region trails marketing and visitor counters of €59,563, Lough Gur Walkway €50,000, Moore Abbey Loop Walks €30,000 and Map Boards upgrades of €25,848. John continued that the investment at this time "will provide an important and timely boost to the local visitor economy by attracting increased numbers of visitors at a critical time in the tourism industries recovery".
