Ballyhoura Development supports communities across the Ballyhoura area to participate in the Sustainable Energy Communities (SECs) Network.

Community Mentors support, mentor and facilitate communities to become part of the SEC Network of over 200 communities around Ireland who are interested in community energy, and the SEC partnership approach aims to enable bottom-up community energy solutions.  Some communities have been influencing local energy use for years, while others are thinking about it for the first time. The aim of the Network is to encourage and support a national movement in every part of the country.

A SEC can include a range of different energy users in the community such as homeowners, sports clubs, community centres, local businesses and churches. In this way, a SEC connects sustainable energy, local economic development and public wellbeing.

Ballyhoura Development coordinates the SEC Programme in the Mid and South West, in partnership with key partners in Co Cork, Co Kerry, Co Clare, Co Tipperary and Co Limerick, supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
